Record Seizure
The Tax Agency and the Civil Guard, in a joint action at the port of Algeciras, have carried out the largest operation against hashish trafficking in Spain since 2015. In this operation, 25 tons of the aforementioned drug were seized today, with an estimated market value of more than 50 million euros.
The drug was hidden in 22 wooden compartments inside a truck from Morocco bound for Perpignan (France). The driver of the truck has been arrested for an alleged crime against public health and is already at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
Largest Land Seizure in 8 Years
The intervention took place in the cabotage area, where the vehicle was marked as suspicious by security forces. After the opening of the trailer, which was allegedly carrying melons according to the documents, several wooden compartments used to hide the drugs were discovered. Although the operation has not yet been completed, given the magnitude of the intervention, it is considered the largest seizure of hashish by land traffic since 2015, when 48 tons of the same substance were intercepted at the port of Algeciras, also hidden in trucks.
